Apply for Fall 2022

We are a small town yoga studio with a welcoming and supportive community of yogis from all walks of life.

Our Lead Trainer, Maggie Christensen (E-RYT 500 & YACEP), founded Homegrown Yoga’s Studio and Academy five years ago in Versailles, Kentucky. Her dream was to foster a yoga community in the town that raised here where a dedicated yoga space did not yet exist. Since the creation of Homegrown, Maggie has partnered with local businesses like The Kentucky Castle and Wildside Winery to offer unique and special yoga experiences. Homegrown Yoga has also partnered with Woodford County Public Schools to provide a teacher training and internship program with the school district, training high school juniors as 200 hour certified yoga teachers that then intern back to the community to offer yoga in our schools.

Homegrown Yoga is a Vinyasa-based studio— we specialize in Mindful Flow, Vinyasa Flow, and Power Flow— we also offer Alignment-based yoga, Yin, Restorative, Meditation and Chair Yoga. Trainees will learn and experience all the styles of yoga we offer and will walk away with confidence in how to share these styles with their future students.

A Note from Maggie:

“Yoga came into my life at about 10 years old when my dance studio offered yoga as a method of cross-training and my reformed hippie father (who I saw practicing yoga in his home office floor one day for back pain and stress relief) introduced me to Eastern Philosophy. A few years later my mother offered me a mantra practice to help me relieve my stress after moving away for college.

But to be honest— that’s not when yoga fully stuck. I practiced on and off, even making my own sequences out of magazine clippings from Seventeen and Cosmo. It wasn’t until my mother passed when I was 21 years old that I turned to yoga— desperate for a healthy way to grieve and process the shock. It took about three yoga classes in the dark basement of a YMCA for me to realize that I had to share this practice with others.

I started my 200 hour teacher training the following year. I didn’t actually know if I would teach— I had never even taken a yoga class in an actual yoga studio before— I just knew, ‘I need to do this’. To justify the commitment to a training program I would say, ‘I don’t know if I’ll teach, but maybe one day I’ll want to open a studio back home.’ Well, that turned out to be true.

Yoga is more than touching your toes. For me, it’s the lifestyle and practice that asks us to dive into ourselves so we can open our hearts and minds to discover ourselves, to connect with one another; and better understand, accept, and find joy and peace in this life.

Teaching yoga is more than leading a great class— it’s about sharing your passion and helping others forge their own path. It takes a lot of intention to create a welcoming space for others to learn and grow together. It takes careful balance, a fierce sense of community, and a deep connection to yourself and the practice of yoga to be a yoga teacher.

It is truly my passion to get to share this practice with others, foster community, and to be a part of your evolving yoga journey.”

Tuition is non-refundable and does not include required reading materials.

1. What do I get out of a 200 hour teacher training?

A 200 Hour Teacher Training program is designed to take you beyond your regular yoga practice, into a space of growth and an understanding of yoga on a deeper level. In the 200 hours we spend studying the practice of yoga we cover topics like: yoga history, philosophy, ethics, business practices, 85+ yoga poses, anatomy and alignment, modifications, Ayurveda/self-care, chakras and the energetics of yoga, plus how to teach and share the practice with others.

You will graduate the program with a deeper sense of self– a stronger, more mindful practice, the ability to share the practice in group or private settings, and so much more. Did we mention the community and bonds that form during our time together is seriously like no other? It’s a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a safe space with likeminded individuals.

During the duration of the program you will also receive a free yoga membership, unlimited access to our on demand gallery, private lessons with Maggie, training handouts, access to special events and deals/discounts on select events, and merch!

2. Do I have to want to teach yoga to participate in a training program?

Absolutely not! Many individuals participate in 200 hour programs across the world to deepen their personal yoga practice. Some come to find by the end of the training they in fact do want to teach yoga…either way students are always thrilled to experience the community and learning that happens during the course. Many students are drawn to the immersive experience of a teacher training, which allows them to incorporate the skills they learn into their personal lives. Many people come to take a teacher training seeking personal transformation and growth after or during a personal life change.

Teacher trainings are also great for those who are already practicing healing arts and/or medicine (massage therapists, chiropractors, reiki practitioners, doulas, physical therapists, therapists, social workers, nurses, doctors).

If you ARE seeking a career in yoga– whether you are seeking a part-time gig teaching something you love or looking to make a shift or addition in your career, a 200 hour teacher training is the place to start.
